Einstein never memorized. Here’s what he did instead.
I just came across a YouTube video displaying Albert Einstein explaining why and how he deliberately never memorized
anything. It’s a compilation assembled with AI stretching from his years in Zurich as a patent clerk to his years teaching at Princeton. It is strikingly similar to my own goal of finding alternatives to memorization.
In the video explaining how his approach seeks to implement his goal, I find many surprising parallels with what I present in my book Teaching to Intuition: Mathematics. My book deals mostly with Elementary and Middle School material. I understand Einstein had more lofty concerns. I can share, in part, goals and approaches without comparing myself to Einstein, but the parallels are enlightening and rewarding. I’ve finally found someone whose approach to how to practice math, how to make the most of it, is close to mine. And it seems it’s Albert Einstein.
